Why should you join the Association?
- It is your professional responsibility to join and support the association that represents you to the MOE, the ICT industry, the NZCS, your school and community. This Association was formed by teachers, for teachers, to the benefit of students and teachers involved in the teaching and learning of Digital Technologies.
- You should not be asking what will the NZACDITT association do for me, but rather; What can I contribute to the Association? Resources are not going to be written by some nebulous unknown people, but by hard-working teachers like yourselves. If everyone wrote just one resource for one level on one topic, we would have over 300 resources from those who have expressed an interest in being part of this Association. No resource is perfect. They are a ‘work in progress’. But we can model the philosophy of open source software, and share what we have, so that others can learn from it, build on it, tweak to suit their purpose, but we can work together on it.
- We should be modelling the vision for the NZ curriculum : To help our students become confident, connected, actively involved life-long learners.
- Confident: Motivated, reliable and resourceful. Be confident in your work – send in a resource, with a Nom de Plume if you like (all authors if requested will be kept confidential). Resources are not to be judged and criticised, but to build upon. But don’t leave it to a few – everyone can contribute something. Or, offer to run a workshop for teachers in your region.
- Connected: Members of communities – the collegial support and networking from the Association is priceless.
- Actively involved: Contributors to the well-being of NZ. That is a real challenge for all. Don’t be a taker, but be a giver as well. The Association needs people to run workshops, write a newsletter, support a regional group, support those schools and teachers who may not have the resources and skills you have, and many other tasks. Teamwork and sharing will make the Association stronger than trying to protect your patch and being insular. Take a look at the aims of the Association and see where you can put your hand up.
- Life-long learners: Active seekers, users and creators of knowledge. That is more relevant in our subject of Digital Technologies than in any other – and we need to help each other along the way. Which of the values of: and principles are you modelling? The key competency of Participating and Contributing states: “This competency includes a capacity to contribute appropriately as a group member, to make connections with others, and to create opportunities for others in the group.”
- To make this Association a powerful voice and the strongest in New Zealand.
Don’t leave it all to a few passionate and committed teachers, who will burn out trying to do too much. Join the Association, add your voice and your efforts – however small you may perceive them to be. It all makes a difference.
