Unit Standards Project
The unit standards project has the aim of:
"To develop assessment tasks and marking schedules, teaching and learning guides and to share these resources amongst our members. To foster excellence in the use and delivery of these unit standards. To be a part of the review and development of these assessments into the future."
Current Tasks/Issues
The removal of the graphics standards. What is happening about this? Rod Bentham has been emailed and his response will be posted here.
Unit Standard Review Process
A number of other subjects are losing unit stnadards as the standards in their area get consolidated. What is happening with Computing Unit Standards? Rod Bentham replied with this statement.
"some subject areas have had unit standards expired, however this is not happening in Computing. We are mindful that there are Digital Technologies achievement standards in the pipeline and that we will have to manage any duplication that occurs between these and the Computing standards. This may mean a smaller suite of unit standards being available, however until the achievement standards are developed we cannot predict what this will look like."
The situation with the new versions and the old versions of the Unit Standards.
The expired unit standards can still be used until and including 2012. http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/nqfdocs/summaries/2009/may09/revsummay09-03.html however this document does not state that standards replaced with a new version can be used until 2012. I have been told this is the case but would love a link to the correct document. Email aoteatech AT gmail DOT com if you have a link to this please.
If you use the old version of 2780 then this will only count as 3 credits towards the new Certificate in Computing. You may however still issue the old version of the certificate in computing. This is detailed in this circular. http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/nqfdocs/qaops/n09004.doc
The Programming Sub Domain.
For the purposes of University Entrance the programming unit standards can be included in the Generic Computing bundle of credits to make up one of the approved subjects. This is detailed at the following site in the list of approved subjects. http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea/for-students/ue/ue-approved-subjects.html
