Certificate in Computing Feedback

Printer-friendly version

NZQA National Qualifications Services (NQS) has considered sector feedback on the revision of the National Certificate in Computing (level 2 & 3) and would note the following.

There was no mandate to include unit standard 2783 as a compulsory standard. As such unit standard 2783 will be removed as a compulsory from the drafts. 2780 and 2781 remain as compulsory.

To reflect this change, the elective A requirements in the level 2 Qualification will be changed from 15 to 18 credits. In the level 3 qualification the requirement remains at 20 credits.

Overall the total credit requirements for the level 2 qualification remain at 43, while the level 3 requirements drop to 46.

Questions were raised as to why elective B required a maximum of 5 credits. A number of submissions signalled that this would be better listed a minimum requirement. There is still the flexibility to choose or not choose this elective while setting minimum requirements. As such this elective has been changed to a minimum of 5 credits.

The revised qualifications will now be submitted for quality assurance. NQS plan to have final versions published later this year. There is the possibility of further changes being required during the quality assurance process.

Finally, it is important to reiterate that this is a revision of the qualification to reflect the recent changes to the unit standards. A number of submissions made suggestions that went beyond the purpose of this revision. These suggestions will be filed and considered when the qualifications are next reviewed.
